Server
Upgrade:
An Alameda based Law Firm was running
Small Business Server 2000 on a platform that was
no longer supported by the hardware vendor. Globalize
installed a new system running SBS 2003 and maintained
all existing user accounts and file permissions.
Some of the benefits of the new system included
increased system stability, Windows Mobile integration,
and expanded e-mail features available from Outlook
2003.
Virtualization:
A
San Francisco based retailer had an aging server
whose hardware was on the verge of failure. This
machine was running a legacy accounting application
for which the original software installation
disks had been lost. Globalize installed a new
server running Windows 2003 and the free VMWare
server product. The legacy accounting server
was then converted to a virtual machine. The
benefits include: increased performance, hardware
independence, and improved disaster recovery.
Health
Monitoring:
An
Alameda based biotechnology firm and leader in the
development of gene therapy products to treat serious,
chronic diseases needed to reduce IT costs. They required
more productivity from their single IT administrator.
Several members of the Globalize Networks team worked
to implement a customized Health Monitoring system
to notify their IT administrator of potential problems
as they occurred. The system also logs significant
events into a database and allows the administrator
to search past events to aid in troubleshooting and
security investigations. This system has helped the
company maintain excellent server uptime with reduced
effort, as well as providing an audit trail for selected
security-related events. Automation can help reduce
IT costs and improve performance of IT systems.
Remote
Office Network Integration:
A
rapidly expanding software startup based in the East
Bay acquired three smaller companies within the course
of one year. They needed to integrate two new remote
office networks, one located on the East Coast and
the other in the Midwest. The goal was to provide
each office with access to network resources at all
other offices and to unify all offices under one Active
Directory Domain and Exchange e-mail system. The Globalize
Networks team implemented a multi-stage project to
accomplish these goals. Major components of the solution
included site-to-site VPN, Active Directory trust
relationships, Exchange site integration, and Checkpoint
firewall deployment. The end result was a secure,
low-cost, and rapidly deployed network topology which
increased productivity and enabled everyone to do
their jobs more easily.
